Fellowships
The Fellows Program of the Asian Programs Foundation is a key component of the Foundation effort to foster tolerance, respect and peaceful engagement between the United States and Muslims of Southeast Asia.
The program was created in 2008 in recognition that providing cross cultural experiences to the next generation of future leaders from both groups is an ideal way to offer informed exposure to the reality of different environments, preparing the fellows to become advocates for greater moderation.
Each two-week to two-month program will provide fellows with exposure to and participation in lectures, training, and discussions in their field of study or professional life. At the same time, the Foundation will provide occasions for meetings, discussion and exchange on other subjects of critical concern to the fellows.
Once a fellow returns home, the Asian Programs Foundation will act as a continuing source of support that encourages him to become an advocate of moderation, pluralism and tolerance. Each fellow will be urged to maintain and build on their new relationships, professional networks, and cross-cultural understanding by participating in other programs of the Foundation.
Our fellows will come from all the professions including business, medicine, law, education and media, and will be selected from the leading academic and professional institutions throughout Southeast Asia. Through this program, these emerging leaders will gain opportunities for increased cooperation and lifelong relationships and the responsibility to foster the Foundation mission of moderation, pluralism and tolerance.
Applicants for the APF fellowships must meet the following criteria: academic excellence including an undergraduate degree, fluency in English, demonstrated qualities of leadership and a willingness to support the core values of the Asian Programs Foundation: tolerance and pluralism. The fellowship provides international travel, tuition and fees, accident/sickness insurance, lodging, and a per diem for meals and sundries.
